Once, in order to save a young guy got into a car accident on the military training grounds, Roman Yuriev has agreed to donate blood with no doubt right on the place. He is 58 now and not going to stop his donations. There is a low number of such experienced donors in the region, especially with a rare blood type, AB negative. First time Roman donated blood 34 years ago.
«It was in 1985, I served in the army in Leningrad. There was an accident with a military train, the cars overturned, people were injured. We were asked to donate blood. About a week later, it was reported that everything was fine, our help arrived on time. After that, I began donating blood whenever possible, but I became a regular donor only when I moved to Chelyabinsk in 1999” - Roman Yuriev recalls.
Roman Yuriev, unlike many donors, comes at the regional station every month. Sometimes blood components are taken directly from the donation. It has become something usual for him. Last year, Roman Yuriev donated blood components about 30 times.
“I am a reserve officer and many times have been in such situations when I had to donate blood. I remember the one in 1989 at the range in Kazakhstan. The soldier was injured caused a hurricane, he had a large blood loss. Immediately flew a helicopter, the surgery was done right in the field. The guy was already unconscious, and the doctor asked for a direct blood transfusion. My blood matched. The boy was saved. We stayed in touch for a long time and even went to visit him with my family” - Roman Yuriev.
According to Roman Yuriev, the secret of excellent health (only a healthy person can be a donor) is in constant motion and optimism. Regular visits to the station help to refresh blood, which is also important. An example of Roman has inspired his spouse and son, as well as about a dozen colleagues - they are now also donors.
