Blood Donation during the Great Patriotic War
New materials were added to the third edition of the collection “Blood Donation during the Great Patriotic War”, released on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory by the Coordination Center for Voluntary Blood Donation at the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation and the National Fund for Health Development. The supplemented edition contains essays on blood donation during the war years in more than four dozen regions of the Soviet Union.

Nikolay Daihes, the first deputy chairman of the Russian Federation Public Chamber Commission for the Protection of Citizens' Health and Development of Health, the head of the coordination donor center, said, that in 1941-1945 more than seven million blood transfusions were performed, and the army received over 1.7 million liters of blood. Donor points were deployed in almost all cities and regional centers of the country, about 5.5 million Soviet people donated blood. The vast majority of donors at the same time refused from compensation, transferring money to the needs of the front.

To donors, doctors, donor organizers, who, with their selfless work, brought the Victory closer and became an example for subsequent generations of participants in this movement in the USSR and the Russian Federation” - Nikolai Dayhes.
“We are proud that even during the COVID-19 pandemic, participants of the donor movement preserve and support the traditions of Soviet, Russian donation. Despite the difficulties, they donate blood and its components, realizing that in peacetime their blood is needed daily, hourly for people whose life and health depend on donation” - Elena Stefanyuk. deputy coordination center, director of the National Health Development Fund.

The collection “Blood Donation during the Great Patriotic War” was created in 2015, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Victory, and was the first Russian publication of materials to systematize the contribution of the donor movement in various regions of the USSR to the victory over fascism. In a single style with the updated and supplemented edition in the year of the 75th anniversary of the Victory of the collection, a congratulatory poster and a donation card were also issued. They can be used for registration of blood service establishments, donor actions, during conducting lessons of courage for youth, memorable evenings with veterans throughout the entire anniversary 2020.
