The campaign “Auto-MotoDonor” being held by the Ministry of Health and Social Development and the Federal Medical-Biological Agency is aimed to promote voluntary blood donorship. All participants of road traffic are welcomed to take part – owners of automobiles and motorcycles, pedestrians, passengers. The employees of the State Traffic Patrol Department are the first to arrive on the accident scene, and very often they have to render medical aid even before doctors arrive, have to see pain and tears of injured people. Due to their professional activity the traffic policemen more often see road accidents, situations where donor blood is a matter of life and death. For this reason, of course, Traffic Patrol employees could not stand by and thought it necessary to support the All-Russian donor campaign.
In many regions embraced by the campaign “Auto-MotoDonor” the employees of the State Traffic Patrol Department have come to the blood donation stations as voluntary donors, giving their blood to the injured in road accidents and all those who is in need of donor blood. Thus, the donor campaign was actively supported by Khabarovsk Traffic Patrol employees; in Tula Region more than 30 employees of a combatant unit of the Traffic Patrol Department have donated blood; in Mordovia a mobile blood transfusion station was deployed right in the building of the Republican State Traffic Patrol Department. Some of the staff are regular donors, others came for the first time, but to sum it up, our colleagues have replenished the bank of blood for several hundreds of liters.
According to Colonel Shevchenko, there are about 200,000 road accidents in Russia each year; every day about 600 people are injured in road accidents: “we, employees of the State Traffic Patrol Department, understand it too well that donor blood is sometimes the only chance to save health or even life. We hope that our humble contribution will help to save some of the injured.” – said he.
