IV All-Russian Forum of Blood Service summed up the implementation of Promotion Program of blood and its components donation in 2008-2011
IV All-Russian Forum of Blood Service took place on 1 December 2011, where representatives of donorship social institution participating in Promotion Program summed up the program implementation in 2011. Organizers of the event were the Ministry of Health and Social Development and the Federal Medical-Biological Agency of the Russian Federation.

The main objective of Blood Service Forum was to sum up the implementation of Blood Service Promotion Program, exchange experience and results gained during 4 years of interaction between all the participants.

The Forum gathered about 300 participants in donorship: state representatives, employees of blood transfusion stations, representatives of business and non-commercial organizations, donors and journalists.

Donorship is the integral part of regular free blood and its components donation. It is very important to involve all participants of donor movement in the process of its establishment – donors, Blood Service institutions, non-commercial, educational and non-governmental organizations, authorities, business communities, media. In this chain of irreplaceable interconnected links the engine is the Blood Service,


said in her welcoming speech Head of the Russian Ministry of Health and Social Development Tatyana Golikova.


FMBA Head Vladimir Uyba told about the results of the Blood Service Promotion Program and its further perspectives. He pointed out the tendency towards rising number of blood donors in Russia and that it was close to standard, when the amount of donor blood and its components correlates with the need of medical institutions:

The results of the program are not only the rising number of blood donors. It is the boost of donorship culture and people’s recognition of its importance, the amount of knowledge shared with them. Besides, 87 Blood Service institutions in 83 regions were equipped with modern equipment. The number of plazma donors has gone up dramatically and at present the need in plazma in each subject is fully met.


Sofia Malyavina, Assistant Minister of Health and Social Development, told about the communication program supporting the Blood Service Promotion Program. She noted the importance of blood donation promotion among the population especially stressing young people as the socially active group of society. She pointed out that there were traditional donor campaigns established in Russia – “Auto-MotoDonor”, “THANK YOU, DONOR!”, “Donor’s Saturday”, and “Day of donor full age”. The artistic contest “MUZARTERIA” for best composition about donorship and volunteering had a great success in 2011, its final concert will be held on 3 December.

Chief specialist, haematologist-transfusiologist of the Russian Ministry of Health and Social Development Yevgeny Selivanov presented a report on the development of the Blood Service. He demonstrated the main numbers, characterizing the state of donorship in each subject of Russia, formulated the main perspectives of donorship in our country. He selected regions with the max number of donors per 1000 people: Kalmykia – 27.6 people, Mordovia – 23.9 people, Tuva – 23.8 people, Astrakhan region – 20.3 people, Ivanovo region – 17.9 people, and pointed to the total rise in the number of regular blood donors.

Director of FMBA Blood Center Olga Grishina with the help of statistics illustrated the dramatic rise in the number of regular donors of blood and its components, attracted everybody’s attention to the improvement of people’s awareness of the donation safety and rising involvement of business into Program’s implementation and building of collective donorship culture.

Among the speakers were business representatives as well: Russian LG Electronics CEO Young Chan Kim and Russian and CIS LG Electronics PR Director Tatyana Shakhnes. The LG company’s contribution to donor movement promotion was noted by all Forum participants. Alexey Nemov, Olympic Champion and star ambassador, joined the company inspiring all the gathered by his example.

Stanislav Davydov, Board Chairman of the National Center for Social Help told about the role of non-commercial organizations in consolidation of donorship and original projects which allowed the rising number of donors – campaigns “Olympic champions in life saving”, “Donor games-2010”, “From heart to heart”, projects “Radiodonor” and “Donor week”.

A press-briefing with FMBA Head Vladimir Uyba took place within the framework of the Forum. The briefing announced the winners of Media contest held by the Blood Service in October-November with the support of Mediaunion, to find the best coverage of blood donation.  The winners were awarded with diplomas and prizes – authors of the best articles (Maxim Gorokhov and Yuri Vasyunkin, Moscow), on-line material (Alexander Sidachyov, Bryansk), photo story (Alexander Bendyukov, Novosibirsk), TV story (Anastasia Logvinova, Korolyov), and radio message (Maria Vdovina, Saint-Petersburg).

All participants of IV All-Russian Forum of Blood Service confirmed that the joint work within the framework of the Blood Service Promotion Program was very fruitful, this is proved by the statistics and the results of this work are now of tremendous use for the society.
This cooperation experience is the foundation for the future development of blood donorship in the Russian Federation.
